SchoolArts 2016 Advocacy Poster Contest
Objective: Design and create an 18 x 24" (46 x 61 cm) art advocacy poster that addresses the question, “How Does Art Unite Us?”
Who’s Eligible? High-school students in grades 9 through 12.
Deadline: November 28, 2016
Prizes: First, second, and third-place winners will receive up to $150 in gift certificates from Nasco Arts & Crafts and Blick Art Materials. The first-place winner’s poster will be reproduced and distributed to more than 3,000 attendees at the 2017 National Art Education Association Conference in New York City. The supervising art teacher of each winner will receive a 1-year subscription to Davis Digital Images. Winning posters will also be featured in the March 2017 issue of SchoolArts.
Judging: Winners will be selected by SchoolArts’s Editor, Nancy Walkup. Posters will be judged based on overall impact, effectiveness in conveying the theme, originality, and artistic merit.
| Rules and Eligibility: |
| 1. |
Entrants must attend an accredited public or private high school. Independently-run extracurricular art centers are not eligible. |
| 2. |
Students should create an 18 x 24" (46 x 61 cm) poster that communicates a message of unity by answering the question, How Does Art Unite Us? Posters can be vertical or horizontal and may be done in any media, keeping in mind that, if chosen as a winner, the original must be shipped to the Davis Publications offices in Worcester, Massachusetts. Davis will cover the cost of shipping and will return the winning poster after the contest has ended. |

Posters may only be submitted by the entrant’s art teacher. |
| 4. |
No more than two finalists will be selected from each teacher. Teachers can submit as many entries as they like. |
| 5. |
Posters should not contain any copyrighted, syndicated, clipart images, or content that could be perceived as offensive, such as nudity or profanity. |
| 6. |
Supervising art teachers should submit a digital file (jpeg, tiff, or PDF) of their finalists’ work to JuliaWade@DavisArt.com with the subject line “Poster Design Contest.” If submitting more than one poster, please include both in the same email. Winners may be asked to provide a high-resolution (300 dpi) image file of their poster. |

Each submission must contain the student’s name, home address, grade level, and age, as well as the name, school, school address, teaching, and contact information of the supervising art teacher. A signed artwork reproduction permission form must also accompany each submission. You can download one here. |

Contest entries that do not adhere to the above guidelines will not be accepted. |
| Suggestions: |

Be creative and think outside the box. |

Keep concepts related to traditional poster design in mind. Incorporation of text is strongly encouraged. |

Entries that are more than just an image on a page have a better chance of being selected as finalists. |

Reproducibility factors into the judging, so use good lettering, high contrast, and bright colors. |
Winners will be directly notified by January 16, 2017. Winners will also be announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Objective: Create a 4 7/8 x 3 3/4" (12 x 9.5 cm) composition that addresses the question, How Does Art Unite Us?
Who’s Eligible? Elementary (grades K–5) and middle school students (grades 6–8).
Deadline: November 28, 2016
Prizes: First, second, and third-place winners in the elementary and middle school categories will receive up to $150 in gift certificates from Nasco Arts & Crafts and Blick Art Materials. The first-place winner from each category will have his or her image printed on an “Art Keeps Kids in School” bumper sticker, which will be reproduced and distributed to more than 3,000 attendees at the 2017 National Art Education Association Conference in New York City. The supervising art teacher of each winner will receive a 1-year subscription to Davis Digital Images. Winning images will also be featured in the March 2017 issue of SchoolArts.
